How R-Values Work & Why Spray Foam R-Values are Better
Achieving an Effective R-Value
Insulation r-values represent the thermal resistance for any particular material. In other words, how quickly can heat transfer through the insulation of your house and heat up your interior. What the r-value of a material (in this case the insulation of your house) does not tell you is the heat transfer within the air around the material in question. Thicker insulation with higher r-values may still lead to above average cooling and heating bills due to areas around the insulation, gaps which allow airflow into your home. This airflow is prevented through the proper use of spray foam. Unlike traditional fiberglass, foam sheet, or cellulose insulations, spray foam expands to fill otherwise impossible to fill gaps where airflow is allowed.
